Lumber..

True- I have been on a hiatus as of late.. My appologies.
The reason for my absence has been an on-going large after work/weekend project, also known as “the deck that was way more work than I estimated!” This was my first real paid "construction job", and well I learned a lot.. First off in RBM status queue, I shot from the hip and gave a time line of a couple of days- Oops try 14 days... Multiple days of working in this recent heat wave with temp's hovering in the 100's during the day. To top it off, the project was against a west facing wall, so in the sun all day! Seriously- I am not firing up the waaambulance, just the facts. Yes, some of you guys do this day in day out, however it was a nice first experience.

I employed the local Chama River legend Jaime Villegas, we worked well together until I would get hungry and my horns would start poking out of my sweat fill baseball cap, resulting in me throwing a hammer at him- He would insist that I should of had the Menudo plate for Breakfast so we could work a solid 14 hours with out lunch- good thing I was the boss. It looks like he and I will be doing a lot more of this type of side job work.. Just some perspctive how large it was. 12'x19'.

This project had a happy ending, no get you mind out of the gutter. A friend of mine grandparents had moved in w/ her mom. They had a nice apartment style addition built onto the house; however the grandparents are slightly handicapped .The addition’s elevation from the yard was quite high and the brilliant contractor they had hired built a quick fix lameo odd ball concrete stair case exiting the home. Needless to say they had no easy access to the outside world under their own power. Although, I would have loved to see the grandpa in his wheelchair going big trying to get out! With this said and in addition to living w/ their daughter and family, they had lost most of their own personal freedom being stuck in the house all day. Let’s see here, last time I checked, grumpy old people are not what I would call a whole lot of fun.

In the end, the project turned out better than expected and now the grandparents will not leave the deck and return to the house under their own power.

"Agggh, about time young man!"

Here are some photos as the project proceded.
