It's Sunday and mostly all I have done today is sleep. Deep, drooling, magically warm REM dreams of big breasted women handing out water bottles full of beer during the next race I do. Chanting my name, wanting to meet me behind the port-a-potties after the race. But NOOOO! Secodog has to wake me up to let me know the wind is blowing outside, again! Talk about bubble buster... I tried playing some golf, but the legs gave out on hole 7, not too bad. Why you ask I can’t walk the entire 9 holes? Well- sit down son, let me tell you a story about a guy trying to make a come back..
So this past weekend was another long one, the 3rd weekend of big miles on the bike prepping for the Dgo 100 http://www.gravityplay.com/MTB100/ . Two centuries in 13 days (The Santa Fe and Albuquerque Centuries) , the Iron Horse splitting the 2 hundred milers, with its 50 miles of climbing and the majority of the ride above 12k feet. Random mtb rides w/ friends and the FOO guys during the week... Needless to say, I am tired, very tired...More tired than the old days of multiple race weekends. Logging over 400 miles on the bikes in 21 days.. This Saturday I knocked out 107 miles in 5.5 hours. I'm not firing up the whaaaambualnce- just doing what I can after a nearly 3 year hiatus from the racing world.
Met some ubber nice dirty old men along the route Saturday who made me rethink the value of a great sexest comment at the correct moment, - Super Fun!! Although, 2 guys in their 50-60s put me in the hurt locker all day.. I can only hope to be middle aged and have the ability to ride a 100 miles, smiling all the way. I felt pretty go until mile 90.. Something changed.. It was like back in the Army when I hadn't slept for 2 or 3 days, normal things stopped making sense.. Like, 'Why is this car laying on the horn b/c I am in their lane?- Butthead!!!' or ' That's funny, I didn’t know Ostridge’s were legal on the streets of Abq?'. Look out Alzheimer’s, here I come! For some reason lately, the sun/exposure has really been bothering me on my rides. I have opted for more sunscreen, but the sun hurts-why? I have been frost bitten, had bad sun burns and spent hours about 13k feet and days out on the water - why now I am becoming sensitive to de sol, is a new one..
